Drama Therapy – Healing Through Expression and Storytelling

Drama Therapy is an innovative and impactful practice used by People’s Theatre Association (PTA) to support emotional well-being and mental health, particularly among vulnerable children, adolescents, and youth. Rooted in the belief that creative expression can heal, drama therapy involves role-playing, improvisation, character building, and storytelling to help participants safely explore their inner thoughts and unresolved emotions.

In safe and guided sessions, participants act out real or imagined situations, allowing them to process difficult experiences such as grief, displacement, abuse, or anxiety in a non-threatening way. It also helps develop self-awareness, confidence, empathy, and communication skills.

For children who may struggle to articulate pain through words, drama therapy becomes a bridge between emotion and expression. It transforms the stage into a space of reflection, empowerment, and healing.

By integrating theatre with therapy, PTA continues to make arts-based healing accessible to those who need it most—building stronger, healthier individuals and communities through the transformative power of performance.
