Drama Therapy Initiative by People’s Theatre Association

Drama Therapy Workshop for Rohingya Refugee Children (2019)
In 2019, a joint initiative by the People’s Theatre Association and Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy organized a drama therapy workshop in the Rohingya refugee camps of Ukhiya and Teknaf. The primary objective of this program was to help children overcome painful memories, trauma, and psychological stress. Through creative activities such as theatre, acting, storytelling, and mask-making, the workshop aimed to improve children's mental well-being and boost their self-confidence.

As refugee children often face numerous social and psychological challenges, this therapy provided them with a safe space to express emotions, reduce anxiety, and foster social bonding and solidarity. According to Liaquat Ali Lucky, founder of the People’s Theatre Association, drama therapy is a powerful tool that utilizes theatre techniques to play a vital role in emotional healing.

This initiative has been recognized as a significant support for Rohingya refugee children, contributing positively to their overall quality of life.
