Opening Ceremony of the National Children and Youth Theatre Festival 2023

People’s Theatre’s Participation | National Children and Youth Theatre Festival 2023

The National Children and Youth Theatre Festival 2023 was a grand event aimed at fostering self-expression, creativity, and social awareness among children. Jointly organized by the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy and the Directorate of Primary Education, the festival saw the participation of nearly 10,000 children and youth from across the country, with over a hundred theatre productions staged.

People’s Theatre participated in this festival by presenting a powerful and emotionally charged performance, in which indigenous and marginalized children and youth portrayed their real-life stories through drama. The play highlighted:

  • Experiences of educational and social discrimination

  • The struggles surrounding indigenous culture

  • Their fight to carve out a place in society

Through this performance, the message conveyed was not only entertainment but also a social statement—that every child has an equal right to express themselves.

People’s Theatre believes that such stage theatre practices help develop leadership, confidence, and empathy among children. Especially for those who exist outside the mainstream of society, this stage makes their voices and presence visible
